Since 1985, The Caring Place has counted on the community to provide a committed and professional volunteer workforce to help families in need. To start your volunteer experience simply fill out the volunteer application at the bottom of the page.  We will need to run a criminal background check and register you for an upcoming Volunteer Orientation session. 

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Not all positions are currently available, but we look forward to finding a good fit for you!

Welcome/Enrollment Specialists – Programs & Services volunteers welcome neighbors and assist them in the enrollment process as needed. 

Eligibility Specialists – Volunteers ensure documentation is present and perform clerical tasks as needed in Programs & Services.

Food Pantry Shopper – Pantry workers are responsible for assisting clients with the selection and bagging of groceries.  Other duties include greeting customers, answering questions, and breaking down bulk items into distributable sizes. Pantry Warehouse Worker – Pantry warehouse workers are responsible for accepting, weighing, and recording food donations, stocking the food pantry, and keeping the warehouse clean and organized.

Food Warehouse Helper - Moving food around the warehouse, stocking shelves in the Food Pantry and general organization and assistance in the warehouse is part of this position.

Donation Intake Helper – Donation area workers receive donations of items in the drive through donation area.  They greet donors, assist with the unloading of the donors’ vehicle and provide a receipt if needed. Once the donations are unloaded, they are unpacked and sorted into shopping carts.

Cashier  – Cashiers are responsible for assisting customers with purchases at checkout and performing other customer service duties in our resale store.  This includes greeting customers, answering questions and referring customers to a manager when necessary. 

Merchandiser – Merchandisers work in all areas of display in the store and are responsible for participating in the setup of holiday and seasonal displays.  Duties include unpacking merchandise and arranging merchandise in visually pleasing displays.

Pricer – There are numerous pricing areas which include: audio/visual, bicycles, books, clothing and accessories, crafts and fabrics, electronics, games and puzzles, holiday décor, house wares and decorative, jewelry, linens, luggage, paper goods, purses, shoes, small engines, sporting goods, toys and vintage.  Pricers in all areas should have a general knowledge of the merchandise to be priced.

We have a few guidelines for groups.

1. Please schedule your group activity two weeks in advance.
2. Volunteers must be aged 16 or older.
3. Groups must be 6 people or less.
4. Groups can volunteer Monday through Saturday.

Loads of Caring Needs Host Teams! This is a bi-monthly free laundry event offered by The Caring Place in partnership with a host organization and Washatopia. Businesses, congregations, clubs or community groups are great participants.

What does a Host Team do? 

Host Teams are the heart of our Loads of Caring events. By providing volunteers and financial support, you’ll make a profound difference in the lives of our neighbors. It’s a hands-on experience filled with joy, compassion, and connection.
